Kanchana Karunaratne Architects is a relatively young Sri Lankan Architectural firm yet known for an experiential architecture that hinges on simplicity and connection with the natural environment. Our work has been recognized for contextual sensitivity, experimental material use and a minimalism reflective of the Sri Lankan ethos.

The firm has worked on a varied range of projects across the island of Sri Lanka, projects which are often small in scale to mid-range  the firm with its personalized approach, imbues each project with a sense of connectedness to the context, region, climate and landscape using locally available materials and technology to provide a rich spatial experience.

Architect Kanchana Karunaratne who joined with the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects in 2003. As a student Kanchana Karunaratne trained under architect Sumangala Jayathilaka, and architect Amila de Mel who had worked with Architect Geoffrey Bawa for many years’ years. Architect Kanchana Karunaratne worked as a junior Architect under Architect Suchith Mohotti and gained experience in large scale commercial projects. On receiving her Charted qualification in 2012, Architect Kanchana Karunaratne joined with Hyundai engineering as the project architect at water front development project known as Cinnamon life in 2012.

In 2017 she   established an independent practice at her home town Ingiriya. Kanchana Karunaratne Architects is one of very few practices which has the main office establishment in out of Colombo, but through their sub office at Thalawathugoda KKA are handling numerous prestigious projects in Colombo.
